Cheltenham races on as inspection cancelled
CHELTENHAM will go ahead with its New Year's Day fixture after rising temperatures prompted officials to cancel a planned 8am inspection.
With a freezing five-day forecast revealed last week clerk of the course Simon Claisse took no chances and laid covers over the enitre course on Sunday.
Overnight temperatures dipped to as low as -5C during the week but with preventative measures in place Cheltenham was always confident of racing and conditions even improved on Wednesday night.
Cheltenham spokesman Andy Clifton said: "The temperature dropped to minus two overnight but there are no problems or real need to take a look and racing goes ahead."
