Uncle Junior rules again in Cross Country Chase

Report: Cheltenham, Friday

Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase (Class 2) 3m7f, 5yo+

THE Willie Mullins-trained Uncle Junior made it back-to-back wins in the Cheltenham Open meeting's cross-country chase when he bolted up on Friday.

Ridden by Mullins' son Patrick, the 9-2 winner came home 11 lengths clear of 11-4 favourite Balthazar King, who won the cross-country race at this year's Festival.

Five lengths back in third was Outlaw Pete, a 12-1 chance.

Uncle Junior, sixth in the Velka Pardubicka last time, made a mistake at fence 27 of 32, but his rider said: "It looked worse than it was. He jumped it fine but he clipped Sizing Australia's heels.

"It took me a while to get my stirrups back but I could nearly ride him with no stirrups because he's that good. He's also great for these races as he doesn't waste any energy at his fences."
