Cheltenham could water again at the weekend, depending on the forecast

CHELTENHAM clerk of the course Simon Claisse said on Wednesday that the watering cycle that began on Monday had been completed, leaving the New and Old courses both good to soft, good in places.
"We finished watering at tea-time. The Cross Country course is good, good to soft in places as that has had no water," said Claisse.
"We may water again at the weekend but by then we will have more certainty about the weather which is forecast from Tuesday to Friday, so we will see."
Claisse also said that if the weather continued to stay dry during the festival, they would be able to water the New course - used on Thursday and Friday - overnight, although he stressed the risks that could bring.
Hesaid: "We will see what the forecast is but if we feel that we need water the New course for the Thursday and Friday we can do so overnight, as we did in 2005 on the Thursday before Kicking King won the Gold Cup. But watering overnight brings risk, because if a problem arises you have less time to resolve it."
