Racing Post Arkle now the aim for Ted Veale

TED VEALE, a long-term fancy for the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase, is set to run in the Racing Post Arkle instead.

Last year's County Hurdle winner was no bigger than 7-1 for the final race of the Cheltenham Festival, for which he would run off a mark of 146.

However, trainer Tony Martin expects the seven-year-old to run in the Grade 1 novice contest, for which Ladbrokes cut him to 25-1 (from 50) following the news.

Martin said on Monday: "We worked a few horses this morning at Leopardstown, including Ted Veale. Davy Russell schooled him and it went very well. He galloped after the schooling.

"If the ground is nice he will run in the Arkle and Davy will hopefully ride. The Arkle is first preference."
