Wonderful Charm on
top in Newbury Grade 2
Report: Newbury, Friday
Fuller's London Pride Novices' Chase (registered as the Berkshire Novices' Chase) (Grade 2) 2m4f, 4yo+
WONDERFUL CHARM stretched his unbeaten record over fences to three when he landed Newbury's Grade 2 novice chase in decent style on Friday.
The winner, who is trained by Paul Nicholls and was ridden by Daryl Jacob, had his ante-post odds for the Cheltenham Festival cut after proving too good for Up To Something.
Betfred go 12-1 (from 14) for the RSA, while Boylesports made him their 10-1 favourite (from 14). Paddy Power left the promising five-year-old at 14-1 for the RSA, but trimmed him to 12-1 (from 16) for the Jewson Novices' Chase.
BetVictor are 10-1 (from 12) for the Jewson and 14-1 (from 16) for the RSA.
Sent off the 8-11 favourite in race won by Denman, Bobs Worth and Dynaste in the last ten years, Wonderful Charm produced a largely good round of jumping settled in behind the front-running Up To Something.
He travelled well and edged closer to the longtime leader entering the home turn. He was fluent at the final four fences and quickened right away after the last.
Owner Robin Geffen said: "It's a great privilege to have a horse of this quality. I'd like to run him in the Jewson, he's got a lot of speed so that two and a half miles should suit him and he clearly jumps well, he's really cleaver when he needs to be."
