THE Venetia Williams-trained Something Wells will not be able to defend his title in Thursday's Byrne Group Plate.
The nine-year-old has run just three times since last year's Festival and was last seen finishing seventh behind Razor Royale in the Racing Post Chase at Kempton. He was a 20-1 chance for Thursday's race.
Graham Skeats, of owners Favourites Racing, confirmed the news when he said: "Something Wells has sadly sustained serious ligament damage while doing a routine canter and will be unable to run."
Despite being an unfancied 33-1 shot at last year's Festival, Something Wells just held the late challenge of stablemate and 13-2 favourite Ping Pong Sivola by three-quarters of a length.
