AT FISHERS CROSS narrowly denied 4-5 favourite The New One in the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle, resulting in more big-race agony for trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies.

Thrity-five minutes earlier Twiston-Davies watched as his 2010 Gold Cup hero Imperial Commander was just pipped in the Argento Chase on his comeback run, and it was a similar story with The New One, who looked the likely winner when leading at the last, but having established a four-length lead he was reeled in late on the run-in by a typically determined Tony McCoy on the Rebecca Curtis-trained At Fishers Cross.
Second-favourite Coneygree led the five-runner field until approaching the last before weakening to finish third.
McCoy said of the 13-2 winner: "The testing conditions were always going to bring the best out of him and he tries his heart out. He's got more confidence in his races this season.
The New One's jockey Sam Twiston-Davies said: "I blame myself - I went too soon. I wanted to get by Coneygree but if I waited he'd have won. He's still a very good horse."
At Fishers Cross reportedly heads to the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, while the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle remains the target for The New One.
