Nassau Stakes next for Just The Judge

JUST THE JUDGE, winner of the Irish 1,000 Guineas and third in last week's Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, is likely to make her first start beyond a mile in the Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Trained by Charlie Hills, Just The Judge went agonisingly close to Classic success in the 1,000 Guineas when caught close home by Sky Lantern at Newmarket in May before going one better at the Curragh three weeks later.

That victory set up a Royal Ascot rematch between the two Classic winners last week; Sky Lantern again proving the stronger as Just The Judge faded into third.

That performance has prompted Hills to step Just The Judge up in trip with the mile and a quarter Group 1 Nassau Stakes on August 3 the favoured target.

"We are looking at the Nassau Stakes for Just The Judge," said Hills on Monday. "She has come out of the Coronation Stakes in very good form and I am pleased with her.

"Obviously, the draw didn't help at Ascot but she still ran a very good race. She got caught a bit wide and I would say that cost her second."

Although untried beyond a mile, Hills is confident the Nassau trip will pose no problems and expects Just The Judge to get even further in time.

He added: "We have been looking forward to stepping her up in trip and I don't think a mile and a quarter will be a problem for her. I can even see her getting a bit further than that next year."
