Gulfstream Park: Florida Sunshine Millions
UNBEATEN filly Awesome Feather (Chad Brown/Jeffrey Sanchez) bids to take her winning streak to nine at Gulfstream Park on Saturday when she faces five rivals in the Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff (7.35pm GMT).
The four-year-old, who concedes a few pounds to her opponents in the 1m1f event, missed most of last season with a tendon injury after her $2.3 million sale to Gulfstream owner Frank Stronach at the Fasig-Tipton November sale in 2010 following her victory in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Awesome Feather had won six races altogether as a two-year-old but couldrun just twice towards the backend of last season, when she nevertheless added another easy Grade 1 victory in the Gazelle at Aqueduct in November.
"Since she's won the Gazelle everything's been perfect," said Brown. "She's been training here at Palm Meadows and hasn't missed anything. She's done really, really well, but we play it day by day. We see how she is after every breeze and every race and if she is not 100 per cent, we'll stop on her right away but I couldn't be happier with the way she's doing."
Tiz The Argument (Rick Dutrow/Ramon Dominguez) looks the obvious danger as she chases a four-timer.
Official highlight of the six-race SunshineMillions series restricted to Florida-breds (and therefore ineligible for graded-stakes status) is the $400,000 Classic (10.25pm GMT) featuring Kentucky Derby third Mucho Macho Man (Kathy Ritvo/Ramon Dominguez) and Jerome Stakes winner Adios Charlie (Stan Hough/Javier Castellano), making his first start around two turns.
Duke Of Mischief (David Fawkes/Joe Bravo) is no stranger to big-money victories, having taken the $1m Charles Town Classic last term.
Also on Saturday
Santa Anita: Santa Monica Stakes (Grade 1) 7f, dirt, 4yo+ f/m (12pm GMT)
Teddy's Promise (Ron Ellis/Victor Espinoza) is after a second Grade 1 win after jumping out of optional claimers to land the La Brea Stakes on her previous outing.
Santa Anita: Santa Ysabel Stakes (Grade 3) 1m1/2f, dirt, 3yo fillies (9pm GMT)
Hollywood Starlet winner Killer Graces (Jerry Hollendorfer/Joe Talamo) sets out on her three-year-old campaign in a race where she meets old adversary Charm The Maker (Ron McAnally/Rafael Bejarano), who was a half-length behind her in that Grade 1 event. Charm The Maker had beaten Killer Graces on their previous outing.
Wide-margin maiden winner Eden's Moon (Bob Baffert/Martin Garcia) looks a potential threat on her stakes debut.
