Cavalryman among
a host of non-runners

FRENCH raider Top Trip is 3-1 to land the Qipco Yorkshire Cup following the defection of market leader Cavalryman, who is among a host of ground-related non-runners at York.

Trained by Francois Doumen, Top Trip now heads the betting for the Group 2 feature on the final day of York's Dante meeting after Cavalryman's connections decided the soft ground would be against their runner.

And they were not alone with 11 of the 15 withdrawals due to the going.

The race most affected by non-runners is York's 4.25, which has been reduced to a field of 14 following six defections.

Only one horse - Duke Of Clarence - has come out of the 2.15, a race the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Sir John Hawkwood is 5-2 favourite for.

Behind him is Easy Terms, 10-1 with Boylesports overnight, but just 6-1 now. Rio's Rosanna also runs in that and having been 20-1 with bet365 and Ladbrokes is into 14-1 with the pair.

The cards at Newbury and Newmarket have also been hit by non-runners, although only a few are due to the ground.
