Chac Du Cadran romps to marathon success
Report: Catterick, Thursday
North Yorkshire Grand National Handicap Chase (for the Denys Smith Challenge Trophy) 3m6f, 5yo+
CHAC DU CADRAN made all to record an impressive victory in the North Yorkshire Grand National at Catterick on Thursday.
Trained by Chris Bealby in Lincolnshire, Chac Du Cadran was sent into an early lead by Tom Messenger and bounded to a clear-cut win, returning at 11-2.
He had eight lengths to spare over 12-1 chance Desperate Dex with 8-1 shot Night In Milan third.
"He deserves it and Tom deserves it," said Bealby. "He's an underrated jockey and it was a great ride.
"The horse is lazy and has been running well over three miles so we thought we'd take a step in at the deep end and he's outstayed them.
"Where we go next I'm not sure. I'll see what the handicapper does and he could get into an Eider Chase, but I think he'll have a break."
Bealby, for whom Chac Du Cadran was the fifth winner of the season, has an ambitious long-term plan for the seven-year-old.
"The ultimate aim would be the Grand National at Aintree, but he'd have to go up 20/25lb for that."
