Life Is Sweet scratched with stomach cramps
Report: USA, Saturday
Santa Anita: San Gorgonio Hcap (Grade 2) 1m1f, turf, 3yo+ f/m
BREEDERS' CUP winner Life Is Sweet missed her intended engagement at Santa Anita on Saturday with stomach cramps.
In her absence, the San Gorgonio was won by Cat By The Tale (Neil Drysdale/Joel Rosario).
Life Is Sweet's owner Marty Wygod told the Daily Racing Form the Ladies' Classic winner had ‘tied up' in the morning before the $150,000 event.
"We thought we were over that problem," he said. "It's what plagued us from last year.
"We got over it after we came back from Del Mar but unfortunately, it came back. Obviously, we couldn't medicate her and we couldn't run her."
There is a chance Life Is Sweet could be retired if the problem cannot be sorted out. "I really want to run her," said Wygod.
"Everybody started to see her brilliance in the Breeders' Cup. We'll try to figure out what makes the most sense. It's disappointing because she would have loved the grass. It's very puzzling."
Cat By The Tale, who beat Treat Gently by two and a half lengths, was trainer Neil Drysdale's first graded-stakes win since June.
The runner-up's saddle slipped, costing her the race according to her rider Rafael Bejarano.
Grade 1 winner Diamondrella could finish only fifth.
