US future for star Chilean colt Hakassan
CHILE: Chilean standout Hakassan, the Triple Crown winner of Hipodromo Chile last year, has moved Stateside to take a crack at US racing.
The Sir Cat colt, who won five of seven career starts in his native country, is expected to join the barn of prominent trainer Todd Pletcher following his release from quarantine in Miami.
Owner Leo Liaskos' Green Hills Farm, who enjoyed US success with Chilean import Casablanca Smile, winner of the 2011 La Prevoyante Handicap at Calder and the 2010 Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes at Keeneland, recently purchased that country's top rated three-year-old colt who is out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Fusaichi Angel.
Bred by the Abumohor family Haras Jockey, Hakassan won three Group 1 races in succession last year - the Dos Mil Guineas, the Gran Criterium Mauricio Serrano Palma and the St. Leger en route to sweeping the Santiago dirt track oval Triple Crown.
