Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright was not optimistic that racing would go ahead after temperatures dipped to -7C on Saturday night but milder temperatures on Sunday night have offered a glimmer of home.

Speaking on Monday morning, he said: "We still inspect at 2pm but the thaw has started. It's still frozen in places and it might be that we schedule a further inspection. But we will take it one step at a time."
