Although not as fast as some out of the stalls, Dettori soon had Overdose in front with a host of them keen to get on with it early on.
Before halfway, Dagda Mor had emerged as the one to press Overdose for the lead and went on over a furlong out.
However, Dettori soon got to work on Overdose, who responded gamely to lead again inside the final furlong and ran on well to the line.
The pair drew two and a half lengths clear of the rest, headed by the hard-ridden Rosendhal who was never closer than at the finish.
Overdose's owner Zoltan Mikoczy said: "We thought we could win, but whenFrankie Dettori agreed to ride we were even more confident.
"Overdose will stay in training next year and we would take him to Hong Kong next month for the International meeting if we are invited and hope Frankie will ride him again."
Dettori said: "He won because he is a top class horse but was just a little rusty but he is still a great horse."
Overdose, a winner of 16 of his 19 starts, was running for the first time since finishing fourth to Prohibit in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
