BAREFOOT LADY (Richard Fahey/David Moran) struck an early blow for Britain on the Woodbine Mile card when pulling away to take the $310,000 Canadian Stakes on Sunday night.

Jamie Spencer, later successful on Wigmore Hall in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer, had to give up the ride on the four-year-old when he could not make the weight of 8st 1lb.
Toronto-based Irishman David Moran took over and he stalked the pace in third on 7-1 chance Barefoot Lady before taking over in mid-stretch and going on to score by a length and a half over All Star Heart.
"I had a great trip," said Moran. "I just moved her out and it was all over from there. She finished strong to the wire and she had it in the bag."
Barefoot Lady, who won last year's Nell Gwyn Stakes, is a four-year-old daughter of Footstepsinthesand. She is likely to return to Woodbine for the Grade 1 EP Taylor Stakes on October 14.
