Ferevia win a pleasant shock for Laffon-Parias

Report: France, Tuesday

Saint-Cloud: Prix Penelope (Group 3) 1m2f, 3yo fillies

HISTORY may yet reveal the line-up of the the 2013 edition of this Classic trial to be the source of some very good fillies but such an outcome might prove a surprise to the winning trainer.

Ferevia (Carlos Laffon-Parias/Olivier Peslier) showed a good turn of foot to leave behind both her rivals and also her prior form, having come from winning a maiden at lowly Amiens.

Laffon-Parias hasn't entered Ferevia in the Prix de Diane-Longines and explained: "You couldn't enter her in the Classics on the evidence of finishing fifth here in a maiden last year. She has really surprised me.

"We only let her run because it didn't look the strongest field ever. I don't mind that she isn't entered in the Classic, to win a Group 3 with this filly is enough."

Baltic Baroness looked to have the race in safe keeping a furlong from home having disputed the lead for most of the race before kicking away under Maxime Guyon.

But she had no answer to the surge from Ferevia, a fine advert for her sire Motivator, who is standing in France for the first time this season at Haras du Quesnay after starting his career at The Royal Stud at Sandringham.

Ferevia runs in the colours of Leonidas Marinopoulos, a longtime supporter of both Laffon-Parias and Luca Cumani and the original owner of another Classic candidate in Topaze Blanche before that filly's sale to Qatar's Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani.
