Brown Panther back in action at Pontefract
BROWN PANTHER returns to action for the first time since last October when lining up in the Listed totepool Pontefract Castle Stakes (3.40).
The Tom Dascombe-trained five-year-old was last seen finishing eighth of nine in the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp, but connections remain hopeful a first success at the highest level can be secured.
Dascombe said: "It's always been the plan to save him for the second half of the season. He won the race last year, so he handles the track and goes on any ground."
Last year Brown Panther went down narrowly in a three-way photo-finish in the Irish St Leger, and the trainer added: "If all goes as planned we'll head towards the Irish St Leger and we hope we get a bit luckier than we did last year."
A field of six are set to go to post for the 1m4f race, with last year's Derby runner-up Main Sequence favourite. Away from Pontefract there is jumps racing at Hexham, Worcester and Gowran Park.
Gowran Park: good, good to firm in places
