WIDENING the nomination process for the 2010 Godolphin-sponsored Stud and Stable Staff Awards has resulted in a bumper number of entries for the first time in the six-year history of the event run in conjunction by the BHA and Racing Post.
In the past deadlines have had to be extended because of a lack of nominations from trainers, but this year the criteria was changed to allow everybody within the sport to put forward a deserving member of staff.
Amy Sherman, BHA promotions manager, said on Monday: "We are delighted that the final number of entries has almost doubled since 2009 with nearly 150 entries received in total."
Nominations for the new national association of stable staff special merit award remain open until Friday, February 19, but always had a later closing date than the other five categories
Brough Scott, chairman of the judging panel, said: "We have been very encouraged by the number of entries this year for the Stud and Stable Staff Awards. We made a concerted effort to make the nomination process more appealing with anyone from the industry in a position to nominate, and this has been reflected by the increase in the number of entries."
