Bolodenka sole British raider in 37-strong Pierse

SUNDAY’S Pierse Hurdle at Leopardstown was reduced to 37 runners on Tuesday with Richard Fahy’s Bolodenka the sole British representative in the 2m handicap worth €66,000 to the winner.


Tony Martin,who won the race with Xenophon in 2003, is represented with Robin Du Bois, Psycho and Mourne Rambler, while twice successful Jessica Harrington has entered Alpine Eagle, Quartino and Turtle Time Lucky.


Charles Byrnes, who saddled Dromlease Express to land a sizeable gamble in 2004, is represented by Carthalawn, while Arthur Moore, who won this race for the first time with Irian in 1979 before dual winner Fredcoteri, Bonalma and Roark followed in the 1980s and Graphic Equaliser in 1998, has Tiger Cry among the entry list.

In-form Willie Mullins, successful with Adamant Approach seven years ago,  has four horses left in the race, including recent course-and-distance winner Imperial Hills, who has been upped 13lb for that success.

 The going at Leopardstown on Tuesday afternoon was described as yielding, yielding to soft in places.
