Game Bocca comes out on top in Kilboy Estates

Report: Curragh, Sunday

Kilboy Estates Stakes (Group 2) 1m1f, 3yo+ fillies & mares

BOCCA BACIATA came out on top in a thrilling four-way finish at the Curragh as she wore down determined front-runner Hawksmoor to claim victory.

Trained by Jessica Harrington, Bocca Baciata has regularly performed with credit on the racetrack and was gaining a fifth win from 16 starts as she was driven to cross the line in front by jockey Colm O'Donoghue.

Having come so close to landing back-to-back Irish Oaks on Saturday with Architecture, trainer Hugo Palmer once again came close without taking home the top prize as Hawksmoor was worn down late by Bocca Baciata and Earring.

Hawksmoor and Frankie Dettori had set a fair gallop and she found plenty in the straight as the runners fanned out across the course in the closing stages.

However, while they were giving everything they could it was not enough as Earring chased her down before Bocca Baciata, who had travelled notably well, shot past the pair of them to win by half a length.

O'Donoghue said: "She's very tough and she's got lots of pace, body and strength. She never disappoints you and she deserved this. She put up a very good performance against Minding last time as well.

"It's the plan to try and win a Group 1 with her now but where to go and what to do I'll leave up to Jessie. She's a great trainer and all class."
