Heavy rain sees 50 non-runners in Britain
WITH torrential rain over the last 24 hours leaving the going heavy across Britain, a whole spate of non-runners has vastly changed the complexion of today's cards with several well-fancied runners among the 50 horses so far missing their proposed engagements.
Five of the nine runners in the Garbutt & Elliott Conditions Stakes (2.30 York) have withdrawn, including morning favourite Model Pupil and the Godolphin runner Modun. Mijhaar has assumed favouritism at 15-8 from Prince Siegfried, Beaten Up and Expense Claim, who is the outsider of the four at 4-1.
Favourite Sky Garden is also out the 3.40, while the well-fancied Icebuster is also a non-runner.
Over at Carlisle, the most notable non-runner is perhaps Cheltenham Festival runner-up The Cockney Mackem, who despite finishing second or third on every start he has completed since winning his bumper on debut, was well fancied dropped into novice hurdle company for the 3.55.
Cheltenham and Aintree handicap hurdle winner Attaglance does still run however and is a best-priced 4-1 to make a winning start to his novice chasing career in the 5.00.
At Wolverhampton the favourites in the first two races, the well fancied Midnight Flower and Letstalkaboutmoney, do not go. Despite 16mm of rain, the going at Wolverhampton remains Standard.
