Bangor and Fontwell abandon Friday cards

FRIDAY'S fixtures at Bangor and Fontwell were abandoned on Wednesday morning due to snow and freezing forecasts.

Both courses recorded five inches of snowfall on Tuesday night and were left with no choice but to abandon their meetings.

Bangor clerk of the course, Ed Gretton, said: "Five inches of snow on frozen ground left us with no chance.

"We are due for more snow and freezing weather so the meeting is abandoned."

Edward Arkell at Fontwell had a similar story to tell, saying: "The track is covered, and even if, by some miracle, it melted it would just freeze and we don't have a prayer."

The only hope of jump racing taking place in Britain this weekend now rests with Ffos Las on Saturday, which is due to stage the rescheduled Tolworth Hurdle.
