Wins for Grumeti and Baby mix up Triumph

WINS at Kempton for Baby Mix and Grumeti and defeat at Fairyhouse for Minsk led to a major readjustment in the Triumph Hurdle market on Saturday afternoon.

The Kempton pair now dispute favouritism for the Cheltenham Festival race, with Baby Mix edging market leadership with most bookmakers.

William Hill went 5-1 (from 20) while Ladbrokes are industry top-price at 7-1.

Paddy Power initially made Baby Mix and Grumeti their 5-1 joint-favourites (from 16 and 6 respectively) but pushed Grumeti back out to 6-1 by early evening, leaving Tom George's Baby Mix narrow favourite.

Grumeti is top-priced at 8-1 with William Hill, Ladbrokes and Betfred.

Meanwhile former Triumph favourite Minsk was pushed out to 12-1 (from 5) by Paddy Power after losing his first start over hurdles at Fairyhouse.

A new John Smith's Grand National favourite also emerged at Fairyhouse after Prince De Beauchene won the Grade 2 At The Races Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse. He was cut to 10-1 (from 16) by Paddy Power.

The new market leader's trainer Willie Mullins confirmed the Grand National was likely for his charge.

He said: “He’s improving nicely and I’d imagine he’ll go on to Aintree from here. I’d imagine he would like better ground looking at the size of his feet.”

The improving Hunt Ball was among the most impressive winners of the day after romping to a 10-length victory at Kempton. He was cut by William Hill for both the festival races he holds entries for, the Pulteney Land Investments Novices' Handicap Chase (10-1 from 14-1) and the Byrne Group Plate (14-1 from 20-1).
