Huge double for Meehan after Brevity Listed win

Report: Salisbury, Thursday

European Breeders' Fund Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes (Listed)
6f, 2yo fillies

BREVITY defied a market drift to get the better of a photo-finish with Rimth and give trainer Brian Meehan a 373-1 double on the card after Shim Sham's 33-1 victory in the preceding maiden.

It was favourite Margot Did who found herself out front early for Hayley Turner, but before the end of the first furlong Richard Hughes had taken up the running on Sweet Cecily.

There was some mid-race scrimmaging as Jamie Spencer urged Rimth up to the outside of Brevity with Margot Did on the inner. Martin Dwyer found himself sandwiched between the two briefly before Spencer got past to challenge the leader.

Sweet Cecily and Rimth duelled with two furlongs left, while Margot Did and Brevity began to re-establish their strides and stay on.

However, it was the latter who picked up strongest. Rimth overhauled Sweet Cecily, but the Paul Cole-trained juvenile (100-30) was just edged out bya nose with 10-11 favourite Margot Did a further neck back in third.

Brian Meehan: "she did very well"

Meehan said: "She will certainly get seven furlongs and it was a tough race and she did very well to get up and win.

"I think she is a proper filly and is entered in the Cheveley Park. We will have to have a talk about that but it is definitely an option."
