Dangerous Midge misses Japan to wait for Dubai

DANGEROUS MIDGE will not attempt to follow up his win in the Breeders' Cup Turf in this month's Japan Cup with connections deciding to instead send him out to Dubai for his next assignment.

The £1.7million race in Tokyo on November 28 had been earmarked as a possible next target for Dangerous Midge after his length and a quarter win at Churchill Downs but he will now be aimed at either the Dubai World Cup or the Sheema Classic at Meydan in March.

After speaking to owner Iraj Parvizi, trainer Brian Meehan told his website: "We are very grateful for all the help given to us by the Japan Racing Association while we considered our plans but, in the end, we decided it better to wait for Dubai. Hopefully he can make the trip to Japan next November.

"I would like to thank Iraj Parvizi. He is a great supporter of mine and has been for a number of years.

"I was disappointed with the negativity towards Dangerous Midge before and after his win in the Breeders' Cup but, as always, I let my horses do the talking and firmly believe he will be an extremely successful horse at the very top level."

Meehan sent his 2006 Breeders' Cup Turf winner Red Rocks out to Dubai for the following year's Sheema Classic, but he finished out of the frame.

However, he has experienced big-race success on World Cup night with David Junior, who won the Dubai Duty Free on turf at Nad Al Sheba in 2006.

Also Dubai-bound will be the Stan Moore-trained pair Kinky Afro and Sonoran Sands.

Kinky Afro raced twice in Germany this year as well as heading out to Turkey for her last start and Moore said: "She is having a well-earned rest at the moment and the plan is to take her to Dubai for the Carnival in January 2011."
