Prime Defender: set to carry 9st 10lb in the Ayr Gold Cup on September 18

THE Barry Hills-trained Prime Defender heads the weights for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup, which were announced on Wednesday.
The Duke Of York Blue Square Stakes winner is set to carry 9st 10lb in the £150,000 handicap on September 18. The Andrew Tinkler-trained Barney McGrew, last year's runner-up, is next in the weights on 9st 6lb.
The 8-1 ante-post favourite Poet's Place is due to carry 8st 11lb while York's recent Sky Bet Dash winner Hawkeyethenoo, trained by Jim Goldie, the second favourite, has been given 8st 12lb.
The Clive Cox-trained Jimmy Styles carried 9st 2lb to victory in last year's race and the 16-1 shot is again towards the top of the list with 9st 4lb.
