THE chances of Ascot racing on Wednesday, when the track is due to stage the Group 3 Moss Bros Sagaro Stakes, are not encouraging accordingto clerk of the course Chris Stickels, who will inspect conditions at 4pm on Monday.
Stickels reported the course to be heavy, waterlogged in places on Sunday morning following 26mm of rain over the previous 24 hours.
That is on top of 100mm of rain which has fallen since April 17. More rain is also forecast before Wednesday.
"It's waterlogged and we wouldn't be able to race today," Stickels said on Sunday.
"If it stays dry we might have a chance because the track, particularly the straight course, drains so well, but the volume of rain has been so huge - there are puddles of water on the track.
"The fact I've called an inspection on Monday for Wednesday tells its own story - it's not very encouraging."
Wednesday's card is also set to stage two Listed races.
