Ascot deploys frost covers a week in advance

ASCOT is taking every precaution for next Saturday's Victor Chandler Chase meeting, with frost covers being deployed over the whole course a week in advance.

With frost and snow forecast for the coming week, clerk of the course Chris Stickels has launched a preemptive strike which he hopes will preserve the fixture.

Speaking on Saturday afternoon, he said: "The forecast is for frost and snow. We're due a frost tonight and possibly some sleety snow flurries.

"There are hard frosts forcast through the week until Friday with snow. The covers are a lot more effective if they're down before the frost arrives and things will depend on how extreme it gets."

Odds-on Champion Chase favourite Sprinter Sacre due to take in the Victor Chandler Chase, for which Nicky Henderson's chaser is a best-priced 1-5 chance.
