Light hardens at head of Dubai World Cup market
LEADING Dubai World Cup fancy Hunter's Light is now disputing favouritism for the world's richest race after the Godolphin five-year-old was handed stall four at the draw ceremony.
Hunter's Light, twice a winner at this year's prestigious meeting at Meydan, is now 4-1 (from 9-2) joint-favourite with Royal Delta with Paddy Power and William Hill for Saturday's showpiece.
However, Animal Kingdom is now available at 11-2 (from 5) with bet365 and BetVictor after the Graham Motion-trained US raider was drawn in stall 12.
Last year's winner Monterosso, whose price ranges from 10-1 to 16-1, was drawn in stall ten.
Connections of leading British hope Planteur, who is generally available at 12-1, plumped for stall seven and Lucie Botti, wife of trainer Marco, said: "It's a big relief to be able to choose early so we are delighted. The first part was lucky and now we hope that luck continues into the race itself."
Further World Cup-related news came on Wednesday in the shape of Meandre, who will race in the colours of Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov in Saturday's race.
Edouard de Rothschild confirmed the sale of the three-time Group 1 winner to French media sources, with the sum involved reportedly in excess of Saturday's $6m first prize.
Meandre, who will break from stall nine, is a best-priced 20-1 chance to land the World Cup on his first try on the Tapeta surface.
