Angel aims to strike for winning team at Chester
LAST year's winning trainer, jockey and owner are hoping lightning can strike again in the StanJames.com Chester Cup on Wednesday with Angel Gabrial.
Richard Fahey sent out Address Unknown to win the Chester handicap last season with jockey Jamie Spencer doing the steering for owner Marwan Koukash, who has five runners in the 2m2½f contest.
Angel Gabrial was a winner on his comeback at Ripon last month and Fahey, who also saddles Duke Of Clarence for Koukash, said: "This has been a lucky race for me, I have won it twice, and they are both in good form. Angel Gabrial won well at Ripon and he has no issues with the trip. Duke Of Clarence was bought for this race and if he gets the trip he has a chance."
Koukash's silks will also be carried by Montaser, Suegioo and Gabrial's King as he chases a third win in the race although bookmakers make Mubaraza the favourite for trainer Ed Dunlop.
Angus Gold, racing manager to Hamdan Al Maktoum, owner of Mubaraza, said: "He ran very well on his reappearance the other day, giving weight to the winner. The Chester Cup is a different day's work but he seems to have come out of the race in good form and we hope he has a squeak. He doesn't have a bad draw [in stall five]."
