Allegretto annihilates Group 2 rivals
REPORT: PARK HILL STAKES, Thursday
ALLEGRETTO left her rivals reeling in the mud as she powered clear under Ryan Moore to land the Group 2 Goffs/DBS Park Hill Stakes by a cool six lengths for Sir Michael Stoute and Cheveley Park Stud.
The well-backed 7-4 favourite jumped smartly and settled in mid-division upsides Aidan O'Brien's Perihelion behind a sensible pace set by that contender's stablemate Hold Me Love Me.
Most still looked in with a chance approaching two furlongs from home but, with only the slightest of urgings from her jockey, Allegretto surged ahead leaving Perihelion to snatch second from the pace-setting Hold Me Love Me.
Gamble of the race, Gull Wing, who was backed into 9-2 from as big as 13-2, refusedto leave the stalls.
Chris Richardson, racing manager for the winning owner Cheveley Park Stud, said: "She is now coming back to her best and Ryan was extremely impressed.
"She has had niggly foot problems which have held Sir Michael and his team up and I'm just delighted she has come back and won on ground that would not be ideal.
"This is her time of year and the Prix Royal-Oak will be her target again. She won the race last year and that is her intended swansong."
