King keen on Hold On Julio in Hennessy
HOLD ON JULIO, a leading contender for Saturday's Hennessy Gold Cup, is "unquestionably" trainer Alan King's best chance of winning the famous handicap.
The lightly raced nine-year-old, around the 7-1 mark for the Hennessy, was third on his seasonal debut at Cheltenham in October.
King was thrilled with that effort and wrote in his column in this week's Racing Post Weekender: "He has come on significantly for that run and I couldn't be happier with his wellbeing.
"His weight of 10st 8lb is just right, he should handle the ground and gets the trip well. He ticks all the boxes."
RSA Chase winner Bob's Worth is favourite for the Hennessy, but connections have raised concerns about the ground at Newbury for their contender. On Wednesday it remained soft, heavy in places.
