A 48-HOUR absence of rain on Merseyside prompted a change in the ground at Aintree on Wednesday afternoon, although the weather forecast for the three-day meeting remains unsettled.
The going on the Grand National course is now good to soft, soft in places (from soft, good to soft in places), while both the chase and hurdle tracks on the Mildmay course are good to soft (from good to soft, soft in places).
Clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch said: "We have had a second dry day in a row having missed the showers so far and the courses have dried again.
"I'm really pleased with the ground ahead of the start of the John Smith's Grand National meeting. It's drying, but the next two days are forecast to be unsettled and we could have a heavy shower or two. Equally, we could again miss the rain."
The meeting begins on Thursday with all four Grade 1s run on the Mildmay course, while the Fox Hunters' Chase at 3.40 will be run over the Grand National course.
