CANADIAN, once a winner in France when trained by Andre Fabre, heads the weights in the sole thoroughbred race on the card on what will be his sixth local start for Mubarak bin Shafya.
Ridden by Antioco Murgia, Canadian is one of eight set to face the starter in a race which sees Kieren Fallon reunited with the Doug Watson-trained Mantoba on whom he made all over this course and distance on his penultimate start.
Watson said: "He ran well enough in a stronger race at Meydan last time and Kieren knows the horse well so I am hoping for a big run again."
Stable companion Dr Faustus was a closing fourth in that race and is another to consider under Pat Dobbs, though he was just behind Maali who is again in the field for local champion Ali Rashid Al Raihe under stable jockey Royston Ffrench.
Kal Barg, a dual Dubai Carnival winner on Tapeta in 2010 for Dhruba Selvaratnam, will be ridden by James Doyle but was a long way behind Mantoba and Dr Faustus last time and has not won in almost three years.
