Cape Blanco still possible for St Leger challenge

CAPE BLANCO is one of Aidan O'Brien's remaining possibles in the Ladbrokes St Leger, with entries after the latest forfeit stage set to be released on Wednesday morning.

The sponsors do not quote Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby winner Cape Blanco, who was subsequently second to Harbinger in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, but Coral make him 6-1 for the September 11 Doncaster Classic, with Totesport double those odds.

O'Brien said: "We've left a few in including the two who were placed in the Great Voltigeur, Midas Touch and Joshua Tree, plus Cape Blanco and Await The Dawn who won at Cork on Sunday."

O'Brien, who is embroiled in a three-way tussle for the British trainers' title, with Richard Hannon and Sir Michael Stoute, added: "No decisions have beenmade just yet, but we're still looking at the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes for Cape Blanco and/or Fame And Glory.

"Rip Van Winkle hasn't been ruled out of the Leopardstown race but he has the QEII as an alternative. Plans are still up in the air."

The Leger market is headed by Rewilding - the sponsors go 7-4, with dual Oaks heroine Snow Fairy next at 5-1. Midas Touch is 7-1 with Ladbrokes.
