Star stayers lead O'Brien Irish Leger bid

YEATS and Septimus lead a strong challenge for Aidan O'Brien as he bids for yet another Group 1 victory in Saturday's Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh.

O'Brien has bagged 18 wins at the highest level this term and he looks to have a strong hand with the triple Ascot Gold Cup winner Yeats and last year's Doncaster Cup hero Septimus.

The Ballydoyle trainer has indicated Septimus would be his preferred runner but he also has Adored, Honolulu, Mikhail Fokine, New Zealand and William Hogarth to choose from.

Mores Wells ran a cracker to finish third to New Approach in the Irish Champion Stakes on Sunday and he is one of two possibles for Kevin Prendergast along with Red Moloney.

Ex-O'Brien runner Acapulco could have his first start for Edward O'Grady whilefellow jumps trainer John Queally has Al Eile and Noel Meade could send out Arch Rebel.

Michael Jarvis' Royal And Regal, the Brian Ellison-trained Carte Diamond and Jane Chapple-Hyam's Yellowstone are the British-trained contingent.

Dermot Weld's Profound Beauty could put her Melbourne Cup aspirations on the line while Hasanka, Ezima and Savannah complete the possibles.
