O'Brien fined for Yeats Irish St Leger withdrawal
AIDAN O'BRIEN was fined €3,000 by the stewards at the Curragh on Saturday, due to his withdrawal of Yeats from the Irish Field St Leger.
The trainer had stated during the week that Yeatswas effectively a reserve and would run in yesterday's Group 1 event only if Septimus was unable to run.
However, that excuse wasdeemed unacceptable by the stewards under the conditions of Rule 194, section five, of the Turf Club's Rules of Racing.
The rule states that should a horse be withdrawn from a Group race or a Listed race the trainer is liable to be fined not less than one per cent of the guaranteed value of the race.
Saturday's race had a guaranteed value of €300,000,hence the decision of the stewards to impose a €3,000 fine.
