Earnshaw shows Classic potential for Fabre
Report: France, Thursday
Saint-Cloud: Prix Thomas Bryon (Group 3) 1m, 2yo
EARNSHAW (Andre Fabre/Maxime Guyon) repaid his promotion from the maroon and white colours of Sheikh Mohammed to the full Godolphin beige with a dominant display in this trial for the Criterium International.
Act One and Thewayyouare have both gone on to complete the double since the establishment of the late-season Group 1 in 2001, while Maxios won a hard-fought success in 2010 and has proved his quality this season with wins at the top level in the Prix d'Ispahan and the Prix du Moulin.
Guyon settled in fourth behind the free-running Dylan Boy and did not ask any serious questions of Chantilly maiden winner Earnshaw until well inside the final two furlongs.
German-trained Stillman briefly threatened to extend the son of Medaglia D'Oro but Guyon found an immediate response to his urgings and Earnshaw ran out a comfortable winner by a length and three quarters.
"I think he's gone up a level today and he really finished his raced off well," reported Guyon. "He's got a great attitude to racing and he's very relaxed. On what he's shown today I don't see any reason why he can't go higher."
