Maxine Locke: Amongst the winners at Romford on Monday
PICTURE: STEVE NASHUNIVERSITY MAN was a game winner of the Magners Dual Distance TrophyFinal - the highlight of the card - at Nottingham on Monday night.
Heats had been run over the 500m course while this £400 to-the-winner Category Three final was staged over 680m.
Maggie Roberts' local banged out and set the pace and firstly fought off challenges from Mays Stewart and then Boherna Bridge to make all in a time of42.12sec.
The programme also included three heats of a 305m Sprint competition - an event sponsored by the local Bookmakers, for which Dynamo Joe (4-6F) was all the rage to land the opener.
Carol Weatherall's black didn't break too well but drove the first bend with great determination to come out in front and surge to a speedy 17.80sec success.
The second eliminator saw Charlie Raymond's Goonsosure (2-1) make full use of the inside draw to hold off 5-4 jolly Clomantagh Rock and race away for a comfortable 18.08sec victory.
David Pruhs' Murlens Crash (4-5F) made it five wins from seven career starts when cracking out and making all to land heat three in an easy 17.97sec.
Romford's Monday evening Bags card carried the usual three heats of a Coral-sponsored competition and this week it was the turn of Maiden Stayers over the 575-metre course.
Leading the charge into Friday's £750 decider (live on RPGTV) is Copeland Robbie who justified very short odds to land the opener.
Jennifer White's blue, the 2-5 favourite, managed to squeeze round in front and was then able to dictate matters from the second turn to comfortably beat Gurtnacrehy Ruby (late headway) by 4 1/2L in a speedy 36.26sec.
Heat two saw Maxine Locke's Rebellious One come from well off the pace to mug Fabulous Fleet close home in a less modest time of 36.85sec.
There was plenty of money (9-4 into 5-4) for Paul Young's newcomer Millstreet Belle to win heat three but, despite leading up she was comprehensively overpowered by Jim Reynolds' Droopys Bieber who led from the fifth bend to score by 1 1/2L in 36.50sec.
