LOCAL handler David Pruhs dominated proceedings in the first round of the John Smiths Peterborough Derby as he landed a treble in the Category One competition over 420m.

For a long time, he looked like having the honour of sending out the night’s quickest winner in the shape of heat four scorer Belvedere Emma, who outstayed Pennys Pong to win in 25.54sec, with that victory was flanked by successes for kennelmates Frisby Barney (25.58sec) and Bonnan Bui (25.60sec) in heats three and seven respectively.

However, the first round standard was ultimately set by Ray Pleasants’s Pennys Midas, who collared the Pruhs-trained Isheforreal at the third bend in the finale and went away for a near four lengths win in 25.52sec.

Defending champion Mountjoy Rock had to settle for third behind Mark Wallis’s Lil Risky (25.75sec) in heat two, while other winners were Heather Dimmock’s Waspinajar (25.70sec), Francis Lenton’s Mays Bonus (25.75sec) and Phil Ward’s Fanore Mac (25.88sec).
