THE MAIN highlight at Nottingham on Monday night was the Stadium Bookmakers 480m Gents Trophy Final which turned out to be a scrappy affair. The conclusion saw Alec Stone's local Burnpark Sparky (8-1), as he had done in the heats, outstay Frisby Barney to record a narrow win in a time of 29.14sec.

The card included heats of two further competitions the first of which was the Betfred Maidens 480m Trophy.
In the opener, Charlie Lister's debutante Castlelyons Cofi (4-5F) was quietly impressive in making all of the running to record a decent 28.95sec.
Dave Firmager's Romeo Hi Rumble (2-1) then produced an eye-catching run to take heat two. Coming from well off the pace, he led on the run-in to score going away in a time of 28.88sec.

Two heats of the Betfred Sprint Trophy were up next. The first eliminator saw Whack Wallop (7-1) who drove the first bend best, foil a gamble on Big Local (4-6F) to record a useful 17.74sec (Outbound Conka was a non runner).
Heat two went to the formbook when Charlie Lister's Glanmire Phanter (10-11F) got first look at the bunny to beat Headford Jack in a time of 17.73sec.

Lister went on to complete a hat-tirick when Farloe Tango (4-5F) made an impressive return to action in the 500m Standard at 9.07.
Sluggish at the start, he bided his time around the first two bends beflore taking off down the back straight.
He reeled in Rockview Sail off the final bend and sprinted clear to score by almost six lengths in 29.70sec.

The heats of the Coral On TV Bitches Trophy that took centre-stage at Romford produced three fast, easy winners and Friday's £750 shoot-out promises to be an absolute thriller.
The opening heat saw Dean Childs' Airforce Allstar, an uneasy 7-4 favourite, break well and just clear Forest Trick at the corner. She then forged ahead for a comfortable four length success in a useful 24.04sec.
Dave Mullins' Blue Glenard (4-5F) was back to her best in taking heat two in a time of 24.08sec. On the bunny from the start, she was always in command to beat her kennelmate Alis Avenger by a shade over two lengths.
Heather Dimmock's Waspinajar (7-2) was equally impressive in  taking heat three. Cracking out and assuming control before the turn, she raced away for an easy five-length success in 24.09sec and set up a fascinating finale.
Draw for Friday's final (live on RPGTV): 1 Airforce Allstar, 2 Waspinajar, 3 Hazy Purty, 4 Alis Avenger, 5 Forest Trick, 6 Blue Glenard (m).

** Yarmouth's Bags/SIS 500 sweepstake final was won by Andy Wilson's Mays Rogue (3-1JF) who broke well and missed early trouble to make all of the running in 28.70sec.
