Stevie lands Romford final for team Childs
Dean Childs: trained Droopys Stevie to win Romford feature
PICTURE: STEVE NASHDROOPYS STEVIE (11-4), the fastest heat winner, followed up in tremendous fashion to hold off favourite and course specialist Ayamzaman in landing the £750 final of the Ardbeg Mentor Memorial Trophy over 400m at Romford.
Dean Childs’s winner took full advantage of the ‘smash’ three box to ping out and quickly hit the front. Ayamzaman, the 5-4 favourite, was reasonably well away himself and showed pace to the bend, but he could not quite clear Droopys Stevie by the bend and was bumped as a result.
Droopys Stevie was left with a tidy advantage, but Ayamzaman kept him contest throughout and tried to challenge on the run for home, though in truth the Childs dog was never seriously threatened and scored by three-parts of a length in 24.07sec.
Trainer Mark Wallis may have just missed out with Ayamzaman, but he landed a double on the supporting card courtesy of Risky Rosaleen and Swift Tigress, a feat emulated by Paul Young with Romeo Scout and Uh Oh Chongo.
Chris Allsopp, the reigning Trainer of the Year, dominated proceedings at Perry Barr where he was in treble form with wins for Go Girl, Jennas Pony and Sids Champ.
