Paul Young: spot on in Maiden final

SEVERN BOLT (6-1) opened his account at the ninth time of asking at the most opportune moment as Paul Young’s charge made just about all to land the £750 final of the Coral on TV Maiden Trophy over 400m at Romford.

Market principals Alis Avenger and Rockchase Jamo on his immediate inside fluffed their lines at the start whereas Severn Bolt pinged out of the favoured three box and took an advantage he never really looked like relinquishing.

Alis Avenger did force herself round in a challenging position and attempted to close in along the back stretch but she was a spent force off the final bend as Severn Bolt stayed on powerfully to win by more than two lengths in 24.37sec.

The victory saw Young complete a hat-trick on the night having sent out a one-two in the opening sprint where Millwards Impact (5-1) beat kennelmate West Way Ranger, while his Millstreet Diva (13-8) just got the better of Beenleigh Star and Carden Pookie after a ding-dong battle in a 575m maiden.

And there was further success for Young in the 400m puppy open when his Underground Al held off Kay Gee Bee in a desperate finish.
