RIO TORNADO (5-1) got the run of the race from the front to land the Coral on TV Maidens Trophy over 400m at Romford.

Danny Riordan’s dog broke well from trap six and was soon in front, being left with a decisive advantage when the remainder of the field crowded behind him at the first turn.

Odds-on favourite Slick Citi (1-2), who had already been involved in scrimmaging at the start, was in the melee, but credit him with battling on for second place, albeit fully nineand a half lengths behind the 24.52sec winner.

Earlier, Riordan had initiated a double when his Rio Venturo made a winning six-bend debut in a 575m maiden. A well-backed evens favourite, the June 2008 youngster was in the wars early on after a slow start, but recovered to charge through the field and was in charge turning for home, eventually scoring by more than three lengths from Golden Venture in 36.98sec.

David Pruhs’s Rotar Wing (1-2F) secured his eighth victory in nine starts when lowering the colours of last week’s track record breaker Tearaway John in the 225m open, but the last-named’s kennelmate Glenwood Dream did successfully follow up his hurdles record although Seamus Cahill’s dog was made to work very hard by Butterbridge Raz.
