Rover, Tunoco quickest at Sunderland Festival
TORRENTIAL rain caused a hare motor failure at Sunderland on Saturday after two heats of the William Hill Grand Prix had been run, the 640m contests both being won in front-running style by Crown Rover (39.33sec), the fastest of the round, and defending champion Lenson Joker (39.58sec).
Racing was delayed with an announcement that it was hoped a resumption would be possible within 30 minutes and that proved pretty close to the mark with the meeting continuing as Wordsandatune swooped late to land heat three of the Grand Prix in 39.97sec.
In the Classic, Ardkill Tunoco was easily the most comfortable and fastest winner when taking the third heat by six and a half lengths in 26.80sec and is now the sponsors' 2-1 favourite for outright honours.
