Charlie Lister: His Farloe Tango beat Puppy Derby winner Newinn Rocket in a thriller atNottingham
PICTURE: STEVE NASHTHE Betfred.com Sprint Trophy final, one of the highlights of Nottingham's Monday evening Bags card, was won by Phil Broome's Gold Finch.
A flashy start saw the November 08 bitch two lengths clear at the bend and, although challenged strongly by Glengall Flash entering the straight, ran on well once she straightened up to take down the prize in a time of 18.08sec
The programme also included a brace of Caffreys Grand Prix heats run over the 680-metre course and fastest going forward to next week's decider is Imperial Boy.
Dave Firmager's Fabulous Athena was ableto escape early crowding to forge clear and take the opener in 42.72 while Paul White's well-supported Imperial Boy simply dominated heat two from start to finish in 42.37sec.
A red-hot 480-metre Puppy contest at 8.36 featured a clash between Charlie Lister's Farloe Tango, a massive eyecatcher on his debut in the Trainers' Championship at Perry Barr, and Pat Rosney's Monmore Puppy Derby hero Newinn Rocket.
The race lived up to it's billing with Newinn Rocket blasting out and setting a fast and furious pace but once Farloe Tango had muscled his way into second place off the second bend the writing was always on the wall.
Tango initially went for a gap up the inner on the approach to the third turn butcouldn't quite get there. Gathering himself for another charge, the September 10 youngster came again in the home straight, this time around the outside, to lead close home in a time of 29.33sec.
The Williamhill.com Greyhound Derby Trial Stakes at 8.19 was won by Dave Firmager's Romeo Patriot who came late, wide and handsome to mug Hather George on the stick - also in 29.33sec.
Romford's card was graced by three heats of the Coral On TV Maiden Trophy (400m) and topping the bill for Friday's £750 final (live on RPGTV) is Kelly Findlay's Bush Standard.
The July 10 debutante, who is owned by West Ham's Wally Downes and the C O Y I syndicate, was able to lead from the start and post a useful 24.14sec.
The first two heats had seen Paul Young chalk up a double with Millwards Tiger (24.53sec) and Ardrahan Panther (24.28sec).
Draw for Friday's final:1 Ardrahan Panther, 2 Millwards Tiger, 3 Droopys China, 4 Droopys Chase, 5 Colorful Marco, 6 Bush Standard (m).
