Monmore next for Ninja after 'record' 'Don trial

NINJA JAMIE, the Betfair East Anglian Derby hero, reappears at Monmore on Saturday after dipping inside Wimbledon’s 460m track record in a trial before racing on Tuesday.

The brilliant son of Droopys Maldini – who remains very lightly raced with just 17 runs under his belt – scorched the sand in 27.30sec (going +10) before Tuesday’s Plough Lane meeting, and Charlie Lister said yesterday: “He now goes to Monmore for the Peter John Chinn Memorial at the weekend.

“There’s not a great deal for him at the moment, so we’ll just keep him ticking over in one-offs. Obviously I was very pleased with his trial, and he’s come back in fine shape.”

Saturday’s £1,800 contest has attracted a top-quality field withthe opposition headed by last year’s winner Blonde Dino, now in the charge of owner/trainer Ricky Holloway, and Coral Sussex Cup winner Droopys Carvalho.

Lister fielded two runners on the Wimbledon card, including Rossacredibility, returning after having his card marked for aggressive interference at Walthamstow early in the summer, but had to settle for two second places.

Rossacredibility, sent off the even-money favourite for a 460-metre open, was beaten a length-and-three-quarters by 28.11sec winner Wintons Whisper, while kennelmate Swift Blackfoot failed by half a length to peg back all-the-way-scorer Big Brett Coal ( 41.38sec over 668 metres).

Lister said: “I’mtold Rossacredibility was bumped at the first and second bends and ran all right. He’d been off a long while and would have needed that race. We’ll keep him to one-offs for the moment at trips around 460 metres to get him properly race-fit.”

He added: “The bitch [Swift Blackfoot] ran on strongly towards the finish, and I was pleased with her.”
The St Leger-bound Wise Maldini, having his first sighter of Wimbledon, was sent off

7-4 favourite for Big Brett Coal’s race, and shaped with  promise in running on for third place after a slow start.

A number of other Leger candidates were put through their paces at yesterday’s Wimbledon trial session, headed by Matt Dartnall’s Bitofamonkey, who recorded a smart 41.16sec (normal) in a solo.

Brian Clemenson’s Shelbourne Tiger caught the eye in posting 41.30sec as he ran on strongly to beat kennelmate Shelbourne Rich, while Barnfield Loreto recorded 28.12sec over 460m.
