Mentor teaches rivals a lesson in March Hare

ARDBEG MENTOR, the best-backed runner of the race by a country mile, gave his supporters zero worries in making all in the £750 Steve Simmons March Hare Trophy final over 400m at Romford on Friday.

Chalked up at 2-1 by track owners Coral in the morning, even the reduced 6-4 carrot dangled by the on-course layers still proved too much of a temptation to those at the track and the odds of Ken Tester's dog had shrunk into 5-4 at the off.

And at the off was exactly where Ardbeg Mentor won his race.

Trapping in front and edging middle at the start, that manoeuvre combined with the inwards motion of fellow fast trapper Union Jak Jakson saw racing room become tight on the run-up.

As a result, out in front proved the place to be and, as his rivals were involved in some form of crowding or another around the early bends, Ardbeg Mentor marched on for the most easy of victories, scoring by the bestpart of eight lengths from the staying-on Masterclass in 24.19sec.
