Majestic Romford run for Wallis's St Leger champ
Mark Wallis: His Aero Majestic was very impressive at Romford
PICTURE: STEVE NASHMONDAY night saw Nottingham stage an all-open programme with finals of the William Hill 480m Trophy and the Stadium Bookmakers Maiden Trophy holding centre-stage.
First up was the Stadium Bookmakers Maiden Trophy final, an event re-scheduled from last Monday's abandoned meeting, for which there was an upset result when Business Fantasy (9-2) beat 20-1 outsider Sparkling Tammy.
Both runners had been thumped in the heats but a fortnight is a long time in greyhound racing and, with fancied runners running below par, Maggie Roberts' bitch, who had taken in a solo trial between heats and final, stayed on strongly to score in 43.14sec.
The William Hill 480m Trophy final at 9.22 was a five-runner race with Charlie Lister's Jordansoilutions being a non-runner (T3 Vacant). That seemed to leave the door open for Chris Allsopp's Bohena Bridge but the odds-on jolly finished a disappointing last behind Alex Grewcock's Snipers Cruising (8-1).
The card also included three heats of the Betfred Standard Trophy (500m) and Paula Timmins' Droopys Beano was by far the most impressive when taking heat two in a flying 29.93sec. The other two qualifiers saw success for David Pruhs' Monleek Amigo (30.70sec) and Gerry Ballentine's Rockview Sail in ...
Earlier, a 480-metre Puppy open saw a great buckle between Charlie Lister's Droopys Edmond and Dave Firmager's Romeo Patriot. The latter, who had claimed the noteable scalp of Coolavanny Bert at Hove back in December, proved strongest
close home to score in a time of 29.37sec.
**ROMFORD held heats of the Coral On TV Stayers Trophy (575m) where the opener saw wide-running Going Abroad slip clear off the second bend. However, Ernie Gaskin's veteran was all out to hold the late charge from Offshore Rebel who failed by 1/2L to catch the 35.62sec winner.
Heat two, which without doubt was the hottest of the two, saw Mark Wallis's St Leger champion Aero Majestic produce a stunning turn of foot to lead round and storm clear to beat the staying on Hee Haws Montana by 5 1/4L in a superb 34.82sec.
**Draw for Friday's final (live on RPGTV).
1 Roscos Flyer, 2 Aero Majestic, 3 Hee Haws Montana, 4 Bridge Jane, 5 Offshore Rebel, 6 GoingAbroad (w).
